Hope you all have recovered after the busy holiday season! We hit the ground running in 2014 and have not slowed down since. We are thrilled to have 4 new wines in the tasting room, with another 3 to be debuted by May.

We had a great time celebrating the release of The Lobbyist, a zinfandel, in mid January with the Speakeasy. It was a great time honoring Mark Barnes and Sabrina Vasquez who helped us change the law. We have also been pouring our Petit Sirah, the Gracias. Not only are we proud of this wine, we are really proud of the label. We wanted to thank all the people who have helped us to get where we are today, so what better way then to recognize them by putting their names on the label!?!?! Megan, the wine maker  has been hard at work and more recently we introduced Ete, a crisp white blend of Symphony and Malvasia, and Unconditional, our rose and Shannon’s personal favorite. If you haven’t yet, please be sure to stop by and give these new wines a try. You are sure to find a new favorite.

Another amazing event we had was Chocolate Love on Valentine’s Day weekend. We paired all of our wines with chocolate… and even more importantly… we had the Tucson Firefighter calendar boys serving… TOPLESS!!! Fun was had by all who were at the winery that day! We were honored to support such a worthy cause as they were here selling calendars as well.

Back by popular demand, we have The Drag Races fast approaching on March 1st. This year, serving beer, we will be featuring Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. and of course have a limited supply of the Drag Queen. The event is from 10AM – 6PM with the races taking place at 2PM. Admission is only $20 and includes 6 drink tickets and a Hops & Vines glass. For those of you brave enough to enter the race, you will receive 2 FREE glasses of Drag Queen. One for encouragement and the other for celebration after the race is over.

Our wines will also be featured locally at The Cafe on Sunday, March 2nd at their Wine Maker’s Diner series. For the first course Unconditonal will be paired with crab stuffed tomatoes. Second course will be Imbibe.2 with a wild mushroom stew. Next, the Gracias has been paired with a fresh cucumber, carrot, and radish salad. For the main course the Lobbyist will go with  nice black pepper pork loin with green beans and roasted tomatoes. To wrap up the evening, the Fluffer will be nicely paired with a  raspberry cheesecake. Be sure to call The Cafe at 520.455.5044 as reservations are required and space is limited.

In other new and noteworthy news, Shannon was interviewed and mentioned in a news article in the LA Times regarding the hot topic of SB 1062. You can find the article by searching for ‘az hops and vines’ at latimes.com. Join the conversation and let us know what you think on our facebook page.

From the winery…

We are so excited to release the following in 2014,

Gracias, a Petite Syrah. An elegant grape variety. A descendant of the noble Syrah but much darker in color with a noticeable brightness Syrah lacks. Hints of plum, tobacco with a herbal nose. Pairs well with peppered steak, macaroni and cheese, and fondue. Drink this wine in the spirit it was made – with the people you appreciate. $25 per bottle ($22 case price)

The Lobbyist, a Zinfandel. A robust and full bodied wine full of red fruit, spice, pepper, and tar. You will find complex aromas of chocolate, cedar, and blackcurrant. Pairs well with lamb and a one night stand. $25 per bottle ($22 case price)

The Temptress, a Tempranillo. Native to Spain, ruby red in color with aromas and flavors of berries, plum, tobacco, vanilla, leather, and herb. Pairs well with grilled meats, pork, cheddar cheese, and Cristiano Ronaldo. $25 per bottle ($22 case price)

Farmer Megan began wearing clothes in the vineyard due to the cold weather. She also started taking cuttings for new plantings next year. More hops have also been planted, next year we should have the very first Arizona grown and made beer. Look for that at Oktoberfest.
